Spied - 2016 Toyota Fortuner caught testing in Thailand
The next generation 2016 Toyota Fortuner was caught on test in Thailand recently. Based on a new ladder-frame setup, Indian Autos Blog learns that the new Fortuner will launch next year in some parts of Asia.
The SUV will not move to a monocoque chassis as the rugged ladder frame chassis has found favor among current customers. Also, since the Fortuner is based on the Hilux pickup, Toyota would rather use the tried and tested ladder-frame setup for both cars to maximize scale. The vehicle will get new interior and exterior design, and Toyota's new family of diesel engines could be seen powering the Fortuner.
Expect the new Fortuner to launch in India sometime in 2016. The SUV will continue to compete with the Ford Endeavour (which by that time would have moved to the next generation as well), Hyundai Santa Fe and Chevrolet Captiva.
Until the new Fortuner lands in India, Toyota will introduce new variants on the existing car. An entry-level variant with the Innova's 2.5-liter engine and a top-end variant with the 3.0-liter engine paired to an automatic gearbox and 4WD, are coming this festival season, claimed reports.
