IAB Report - 2016 Toyota Innova to get diesel AT variant
Toyota is working on replacements for the Innova and Fortuner, and both these cars will be updated in India come 2016. At about the same time, Toyota will be ready with new diesel engines which will be seen powering these cars. The highlight of the new Innova is that the diesel variant will receive an automatic transmission that it currently is not seen with, industry sources told Indian Autos Blog.
The same sources mentioned that its unlikely for the new Innova to use a monocoque chassis, and that a ladder-frame setup will be used. The new model will build on the strengths of the current Innova by offering a roomier cabin and more features. On the outside, the new Innova is described as having "striking" styling cues.
The Innova is a bread-and-butter model for Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) and accounts for as much as 45 percent of sales. In October last year, the MPV was updated visually through a new grille, front bumper and rear reflectors.
Though these updates were minimal, the prices were increased and a new top-end 'Z' variant was launched. The Innova's price now extends up to INR 14.77 lakhs, ex-Showroom, Mumbai. The incoming model is not expected to retail for anything cheaper.
