Work on the 2016 Innova started in 2011.

The 2016 Toyota Innova is just a week old in the market, however, the company has already started working on a facelift for the popular MPV, reports Otomotif Kompass.

The 2016 Innova is available in Indonesia in a total of 12 variants.

The publication was told by Yui Hastoro, Director of Technical and Project Planning, TMMIN (Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia), that the design of the 2016 Innova was finalized over four years ago, back in 2011. Toyota's engineers have spent over four years developing the product, and the new GD diesel engine family since.

Hastoro further revealed that his engineering team has already started thinking about the next Innova (Innova facelift). Toyota's product facelifts generally roll out after 3-4 years from the launch, and the same can be expected with the Innova.

The top-end variant of the 2016 Innova gets 7 airbags, while ABS and EBD are standard across the range.

Toyota launched the second generation Innova in Indonesia this week nearly 11 years after the introduction of the first generation model. Based on a new ladder-frame chassis, the 2016 Innova is offered with the 2.4-liter GD diesel engine and the 2.0-liter VVT-i petrol engine in the Indonesian market. Both engines are available with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
