Engines to be made in India at new engine manufacturing plant.

While the second generation 2016 Toyota Innova is still pending its global debut, which is scheduled to take place in Thailand later this year, a report on the Economic Times states that the MPV will be arriving in India - one of its largest markets - in the first half of 2016.

The new Innova is expected to be powered by the 2.4-liter GD diesel engine, paired to manual and automatic transmissions.

In its new avatar, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is planning to produce 90,000 units of the new Innova in its first year, which equates to an average of 7,500 units a month, or roughly 45 percent more than the current Innova's sales (the Innova sold an average of 5,163 units/month over the past 6 months).

Takeshi Uchiyamada, chairman of board for Toyota Motor Corporation told the publication that the company had made investments in India for a new engine plant, which will start operations next year, and will invest further for new models.

The new engine plant, which is located in Jigani, Karnataka, is expected to start rolling out Toyota's new GD family of diesel engines, which is employed on the 2016 Fortuner and Hilux Revo. The engine family comprises of a 2.4- and a 2.8-liter unit, though its the former which can be expected on the new Innova.
