2016 Toyota Land Cruiser (facelift) launched, priced from 4,728,437 yen - IAB Report

Toyota has launched the 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser 200 in Japan yesterday. Featuring a host of new changes and upgrades, the facelifted model is available in four variants: GX, AX, G Selection and ZX, and is priced between 4,728,437 - 6,825,600 yen (INR 24.84 - 35.8 Lakhs).

As seen in many spyshots prior to its launch, the front end features a much bolder 3-slat chrome grille, redesigned headlights with LED lamps, and chrome fog lamp enclosures. While the side profile is virtually unchanged, the rear end gets new LED clusters for the taillamps and chrome garnish across the split hatch.

Inside, the 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser 200 gets a redesigned centre console with recessed buttons. Taking the centre stage is a new 4.2-inch TFT colour display and six LED-backlit meters. The entire cabin now gets four colour combinations to choose, one of which is a new hue of brown, while the seats are semi aniline leather.

Depending on the market, the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 is available with a range of V8 and V6 engines. For the Japanese market, the 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser 200 is powered by a 4.6 litre V8 petrol motor capable of 318 hp at 5,600 rpm and 460 Nm peak torque at 3,400 rpm. It is mated to 6-speed automatic transmission that drives all wheels via an intelligent 4WD system with Rock Crawl.

The India-spec facelifted Land Cruiser 200 will pack the same 4.5 litre twin-turbo diesel engine, but revised with new injectors, updated ECU mapping and new Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). It now 268 hp (7 hp more than before) and same peak torque of 650 Nm. Mileage is improved by 8 percent, to 10.5 kmpl.

The 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser 200 debuts Toyota's flagship Safety Sense P package, which includes features like  Pre-collision System with pedestrian detection, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Automatic High Beam (AHB), Tire Pressure Warning System, Radar Cruise Control (with brake control), and a panoramic multi-terrain monitor with an ‘under floor view’.

As for its Indian launch, the 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser 200 is expected to arrive in 2016. It could be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.
