Available with an e-four AWD system.

When Toyota unveiled the next generation 2016 Toyota Prius ahead of its public premiere at the 2015 IAA in Frankfurt, the company didn't reveal too many technical details of the new hybrid. However, thanks to leaked shots of the staff manual, here are some exclusive details not divulged before.

An E-Four AWD mode is available in higher variants, which drops the fuel consumption to 35 km/L.

Under the hood, it packs a 1.8-liter 2ZR-FXE Atkinson cycle engine, which is paired to an electric motor. Although power figures have not been revealed, it states that the Prius can return a maximum fuel mileage of 40 km/L (JC08 cycle). An E-Four AWD mode is available in higher variants, which drops the fuel consumption to 35 km/L.

The fourth generation Toyota Prius is designed around what the company calls ICONIC Human-tech, which adds flowing curves with aggressive angular lines, resulting in "ground-breaking advances" and "aerodynamic innovations" for cutting through the air more efficiently.

Compared to the outgoing Prius, the new model is 60 mm longer, 15 mm wider and 20 mm lower. It now measures 4540 mm long, 1,760 mm wide, 1470 mm tall and has a wheelbase 2,700 mm. Thanks to the lower center of gravity and sturdier TNGA modular platform, the new Prius exhibits less roll, according to the manual.

Inside, it features a simple dashboard design with a 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel, and a large touchscreen infotainment system in the center. The stubby gear selector is located on the center console, while the digital instrument cluster is mounted on center of the dashboard. It houses 4.2 inch TFT Multi-information displays for feeding vital information to the driver.
