2016 Toyota Vios revealed, now available to order - Malaysia

New Toyota Vios starts cheaper, at RM 76,500 (INR 12,35,810.32).

Toyota has revealed the Malaysian-spec 2016 Toyota Vios and is now accepting orders for the updated model in the country. The new Vios is actually cheaper, starting at RM 76,500 (INR 12,35,810.32) for the base grade.

The 1NZ-FE 1.5-litre VVT-i engine has been replaced by the 2NR-FE 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i engine.

The 2016 Toyota Vios is Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) certified. Looking largely unchanged inside and out, the MY2016 update it's certainly not a facelift, but does bring some significant mechanical changes.

The 2016 Toyota Vios is powered by the new 2NR-FE 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i four-cylinder engine that produces 107 PS (78.87 hp) and 140 Nm of torque. Oddly, both maximum power (-2 PS) and maximum torque (-1 Nm) figures are lower compared to the 1NZ-FE 1.5-litre VVT-i engine employed previously. The 4-speed automatic transmission has been replaced by a new 7-speed continuously variable transmission.

A new 'GX' grade has been added to the range, positioned just below the TRD Sportivo grade.

The 2016 Toyota Vios is available in 1.5 J (MT), 1.5 J (AT), 1.5 E (AT), 1.5 G (AT), 1.5 GX (AT) and 1.5 TRD Sportivo grades. The GX model is new to the range and features a bodykit, smoked projector headlights, a dark chrome grille, two-tone wheels and black-and-tan combination leather seats. Along with the introduction of this new trim level, the already existing J, E, G and TRD Sportivo models have been given some equipment upgrades.
