According to German media reports, the 2016 VW Tiguan riding on the VW Golf VII platform will be launched in 2016. Interestingly it is reported that the new Tiguan will come with a variant that offers third row seating, not available on the current generation.

Expected to lose at least 27-36 kg and consume 15 percent less fuel, the standard Tiguan would be fielded with a plug-in hybrid form (GTE variant) besides the run of the mill petrol and diesel engines.

Volkswagen, according to AutoBild, is planning an XL version of the Tiguan for seven-passenger segment.

The front-wheel drive SUV would get adaptive suspension dampers, optional LED headlamps (available on the European Polo facelift), High-Beam assist, City emergency braking, obstacle recognition, auto park function, and lane departure warning, the report says.

Volkswagen would make a stretched variant that offers third row seating, and possibly an 'R' version aimed at customers who crave for more power. Rival BMW is reportedly also interested in the seven-seat market in its next generation X1, and has been caught testing a stretched seven-seat 2 Series Active Tourer variant in Europe.
