2017 Land Rover Discovery to launch in late-2016 - Rendering
Successor to the aging Land Rover Discovery 4/LR4.
Land Rover is currently working on a replacement for the aging Land Rover Discovery 4, which is merely a facelifted version of the Land Rover Discovery 3/LR3. The upcoming 2017 Discovery has been spotted testing in Europe, featuring a design inspired by the Land Rover Discovery Vision Concept.
Based on spyshots of the prototype, Auto Express has posted a couple of renderings depicting the next Discovery, which will not be called "Discovery 5". From first glance, it's apparent that the new Discovery will lose the boxy styling of the outgoing model for a more-curvaceous approach, as seen in the Land Rover Discovery Sport.
Inside, the cabin will be more spacious and premium than before. It will continue offering third row seats that are foldable to leave a large boot volume, although it's unclear if the new Discovery will have a split tailgate as in the Discovery 4. Auto Express states that the new Discovery will feature laser headlights, Transparent Bonnet tech, and even remote drive to auto park the vehicle.

As for engine lineup, it could offer JLRs 2.0-liter Ingenium range of engines for entry-level models, while bigger 3.0-liter petrol and diesel engines may power the top-end variants. A hybrid variant is also in the cards, which will likely pair a 2.0-liter Ingenium engine with an electric motor(s). As with any Discovery, an AWD system will be standard across the range, as well as an improved version of Terrain Response.
