Next-gen 2017 Lexus LS (Mercedes S Class rival) to debut at Tokyo Motor Show - Report

A report on Motoring.com.au states that the next generation of Lexus's flagship sedan, the LS, will be revealed at this year's Tokyo Motor Show which commences on October 29, 2015. The new LS will go on sale in key markets next year, as a 2017 model.

The publication has few details on the 2017 LS, but states that it will up the luxury quotient, while featuring Toyota's new autonomous driving technology. According to reports, the new 2017 Lexus LS will be based on an all-new rear-wheel drive chassis, which will also spawn a coupe, which coincidentally will also be revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show this year.

The coupe is expected to be badged the Lexus LC, and will take design inspiration from the Lexus LF-LC concept, which was shown at the 2012 edition of the NAIAS (2012 Detroit Motor Show). Obviously, it will have the S Class Coupe in sight, which will be launched in India later this month.

The LF LC concept is expected to be a design precursor for the new LS-based coupe.

The 2017 Lexus LS and the Lexus LC Coupe will be powered by a 5.0-liter V8 petrol engine with as much as 500 hp on tap. A hybrid variant with a V6 engine is also reported to be in the making.

Multiple reports have suggested that Toyota is keen on launching the Lexus brand in India. If the brand is introduced, the LS would serve as a brand-shaping, flagship tool, and would naturally rival its German counterparts, the Mercedes S Class, BMW 7 Series and the Audi A8.
