New Maruti Dzire upto 105 kg lighter than the outgoing model

Based on the HEARTECT lightweight platform derived from Baleno.

At the unveil of the 3rd gen Maruti Dzire, MSIL officials divulged that the new Dzire is lighter by up to 105 kg for the diesel variant and 85 kg for the petrol version compared to the Swift Dzire. While the fuel efficiency figures were not released, it is likely to beat the 26.59 km/l and 20.85 km/l mileage figures of the diesel and petrol versions of the outgoing model easily.

Despite being lighter, MSIL claims that the 2017 Maruti Dzire is compliant with frontal and side impact regulations.

The 2017 Maruti Dzire is based on the 5th gen HEARTECT lightweight platform derived from the Maruti Baleno, which uses Ultra-high tensile and high tensile steel in its construction, so as to not comprise on structural rigidity. Despite being lighter, Maruti claims that the new Dzire is compliant with frontal and side impact regulations, as well as meets pedestrian safety regulations. The car is also wider and offers increased rear legroom and a bigger boot.

The engine options on offer at launch include a 1.2L K12B motor producing 84 hp and 115 Nm of torque, while the diesel gets the 1.3L DDiS motor with 75 hp and 190 Nm of torque. Both engines can be had with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT (from V grade onwards), meaning there will be no drop in the fuel efficiency of the automatic variants, as compared to the manual variants.
