Next-gen Maruti Swift Dzire's launch advanced by a year - Report
New Swift is expected in H2 2016.
LiveMint reports that Maruti Suzuki has advanced the launch of the next generation Maruti Swift Dzire from fiscal year 2018-19 to 2017-18. An executive at an auto component firm, which received a request-for-quotation, confirmed to the publication.
The Swift Dzire is the second best selling car in India (in the Jan-Nov 2015 period, the Dzire sold 220,000 units whereas the Maruti Alto sold 250,000 units), and hence Maruti wants to waste no time in bringing the next generation model.
The third generation Swift Dzire will be based on the all-new Swift, which is expected to be revealed in the second half of 2016. Indian Autos Blog reported in October this year that the new Swift will be based on the Baleno's 'New generation platform', which features upto 41 percent of tensile steel in its construction. The Dzire too will make use of the same platform.
The new platform is expected to reduce weight by 50-80 kg on the Swift and Dzire models. It also promises better crash safety for occupants, and in addition, expect Maruti to standardize dual front airbags on the new Dzire and Swift models.

According to the publication, the new Swift Dzire will be produced at Suzuki's upcoming plant in Gujarat. While petrol and diesel engines will be on offer, it remains to be seen if Maruti shifts from Fiat's MultiJet diesel engines to Suzuki's in-house diesel engine when the all-new Dzire launches in the market.
