Next-gen 2017 Maruti Swift (Suzuki Swift) leaked, features evolutionary styling - Report

Expected to arrive in European markets from early-2017.

From a dealer conference, the exterior of the next generation 2017 Suzuki Swift (next generation 2017 Maruti Swift in India) has leaked online, revealing evolutionary exterior and interior designs.

Designers have introduced more contemporary elements such as a floating roof impression and large hexagonal grille.

The basic silhouette of the Maruti Swift remains intact, although designers have introduced more contemporary elements such as a floating roof impression, large hexagonal grille, new headlamps and wraparound taillamps. The door handle for the rear door has been moved up towards the C-Pillar, a feature also present on the Chevrolet Beat and Mahindra KUV100.

According to a report, these images are that of the new Swift Sport.

Inside, however, the changes are more significant. It adopts a more premium design with a new steering wheel, two-pod instrument dials flanking a large MID, new HVAC controls with circular vents in the center, and contrasting trim adorned on the dashboard, floor console and door panels.

The next generation Swift will be based on the lightweight platform sourced from the Baleno. It promises better crash protection, and uses up to 41 percent of tensile steel for its construction, making it lighter than the outgoing model.

Details on its engine lineup are not confirmed, although it's likely to feature the 1.2L K-Series in addition to the 1.0L Boosterjet. The 1.3L DDiS could be replaced with Suzuki's self-developed diesel engine. Gearbox choices may include 5-speed manual, an AMT or even a CVT unit.
