The base variant of the Boxster facelift is likely to get a 2.0-liter turbo.

A test mule of the Porsche Boxster S facelift has been caught testing at the Nurburgring by YouTube user Gumbal. It is reported that the mule is powered by a four-cylinder turbo engine.

After introducing the turbocharged Carrera models at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, it seems that Porsche is taking the turbo route for the Boxster and Cayman models. WorldCarFans reports that the 2017 Boxster S seen in the video is not powered by the 3,436 cc flat-six engine but by a smaller flat-four turbo unit.

It has been rumoured that the new engine powering the mule would be having a displacement of 2.5-liters and an output of 300 hp. This output will be lowered to 240 hp in the base variant which is also expected to have a smaller 2.0-liter engine. The top-end GTS variant has been reported to get the 2.5-liter unit but with output bumped up to 370 hp.

The facelifted Boxster and Cayman models will also get minor exterior and interior revisions along the lines of what was seen on the recently-introduced Carrera models. Porsche is expected to bring out the facelift early next year.
