2017 Range Rover Sport (facelift) begins testing - Report

Gets minor cosmetic updates.

Land Rover is planning to update the Range Rover Sport, and this information has been obtained through spyshots of the first test mules from Worldcarfans. The facelift has been spotted testing near the Nurburgring in Germany.

The 2017 Range Rover Sport, led by the camouflage, would get a revised grille, bumper and hood.

The car is not heavily camouflaged with only its front being covered for the most part. This particular test mule gets the same headlights and a slightly reworked grille with a new bonnet. The air intakes have been positioned vertically as opposed to the horizontal layout of the current model. By way of the camouflage, we speculate that the bumper and skid plates might also undergo revisions. The side profile remains the same, though the wheels look like they sport a new design.

There is no word on the interior or features list, but the website reports that the current engine range may be carried over to the 2017 Range Rover Sport. That means a choice of a 3.0-liter V6 diesel, 4.4-liter V8 diesel and and 5.0-liter V8 petrol engines. The current smaller diesel unit produces 288 bhp and 600 Nm of torque, the 4.4-liter unit makes 334.2 bhp and 740 Nm, while the petrol mill generates 503 bhp and 625 Nm of twist force.

The 2015 Range Rover Sport's 4.4-litre SDV8 diesel engine's torque was hiked to 740 Nm against the previous version’s 700 Nm. The 334.2 bhp power output remained.

All the engines are mated to the 8-speed automatic gearbox, which maybe traded in for the 9-speed unit from the Evoque and Discovery Sport.

The Range Rover Sport was introduced as an all-new model in 2014 and this is likely to be its midlife facelift, expected to debut in mid-2016.
