2017 Yamaha R1 & 2017 Yamaha R1M unveiled - Japan

The Yamaha R1 traces its origins to the Yamaha M1, their MotoGP machine.

Yamaha Japan is gearing up to introduce the 2017 Yamaha R1 and 2017 Yamaha R1M. The motorcycles will be available from June 2017.

The 2017 Yamaha R1 is powered by a 998 cc mill which is capable of producing 200 PS of maximum power and 112.4 Nm of peak torque.

Powering the 2017 Yamaha R1 is a 998 cc DOHC, forward inclined parallel four-cylinder mill which is coupled to a six-speed gearbox. The engine is capable of producing 200 PS of maximum power at 13,500 rpm and 112.4Nm of peak torque at 11,500 rpm.

The Yamaha R1 tips the scales at 199 kg and gets 43 mm fully adjustable upside down forks up front and a link type monoshock. The Yamaha R1M is powered by the same powerplant but gets a carbon fibre body and an Ohlins racing suspension. The R1 is also the first production to get titanium fracture-split connecting rods.

The Yamaha R1 is loaded to the gills with banking sensitive Traction Control, as well as Slide Control, Front Lift Control, Quickshifter, Launch Control, ABS and a Unified Brake System. It also gets a TFT instrumentation console. The R1 is available in Deep Purpose Blue Metallic and Matt Dark Grey Metallic. The R1 M though is retailed only in Blue Ish White Metallic.

The 2017 Yamaha R1 has been priced at JPY 2,268,000 while the 2017 Yamaha R1M retails at JPY 3,078,000.
