In its third generation now, the BMW X3 has sold over 1.5 million copies since it was launched in 2003.

The third generation of the BMW X3 features an evolutionary design that looks more sophisticated and a tad more butch. Styling highlights of the SAV include a chunky kidney grille and hexagonal foglamps. The latter is a first on an X-series model. At the rear, the X3 features full-LED taillamps with three-dimensional looks, a downward-sloping roof spoiler and twin exhaust tailpipes.

The top-spec grade holds adaptive LED headlights, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay, iDrive Touch with handwriting recognition and 3D maps, 12.3-inch virtual instrument cluster, electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, Harman Kardon Surround Sound system (600 W, 16 loudspeakers), and front and rear parking sensors with rear-view camera.

Safety features are airbags for driver and front passenger, overhead airbags, side airbags, ABS with brake assist, Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), and tyre pressure indicator.

The Indian-spec BMW X3 is planned out in two engine variants - xDrive 20d diesel and xDrive 30i petrol - and three grades - Expedition, xLine, Luxury Line. The xDrive 20d is powered by a 2.0-litre 16V turbo-diesel motor that outputs 190 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm at 1,750 - 2,500 rpm. The xDrive 30i is propelled by a 2.0-litre 16V turbocharged petrol motor that outputs 252 bhp at 5,200 rpm and 350 Nm at 1,450-4,800 rpm.
