Redesigned Ford Focus expected to go on sale in early 2018.

With the all-new Ford Fiesta now on sale, Ford's centre of attention is the next-gen Ford Focus expected to reach European showrooms early next year. The 2018 Ford Focus was recently spotted testing by bensvhodges from Live To Drive in the UK. The spy shots likely give the first look at the outer ends of the production tail lamps, which appear to have a horizontal orientation.

The next-gen Ford Focus will likely sell in hatchback, sedan and estate versions, with EV, hybrid, ST and RS versions in the pipeline.

The 2018 Ford Focus in the spy shots is wearing a production body. Expected to feature an evolutionary design with proportions similar to the current model, the next-gen Ford Focus will grow in length and width for a roomier cabin.

The fourth-gen Ford Focus will sit on a new version of the current platform. It is said to have a 50 mm longer wheelbase (current model: 2,648 mm). While the exterior won't differ extensively from the third generation model, the interior would see substantial improvements in quality and equipment. The redesigned Focus is expected to feature softer plastics, mouldings, trim, switchgear and new instruments. Ford will offer a head-up display in the all-new Focus.

The next-gen Ford Focus will likely sell in hatchback, sedan and estate versions. Reports suggest Ford will offer it with the 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol and 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engines in multiple power outputs and the 2.0-litre TDCi diesel engine, as well as new 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol engines in Europe.

The Focus Electric could continue through the next generation, and in addition, a hybrid variant could emerge to reach a wider range of customers globally demanding electrified cars. An ST variant is inevitable and should arrive soon after the standard variant, while the Focus RS variant will eventually join the brigade.
