2018 Honda Africa Twin bookings in India to commence this month - Report

It was earlier reported that the 2018 Honda Africa Twin would be launched in the country in July. Now, a report from Overdrive states that the bookings will commence by the end of this month; and deliveries will reportedly start in July.

The motorcycle will enter the country via the CKD route, just like the previous generation bike.

The 2018 Honda Africa Twin comes with a number of updates for better rideability. Honda has updated the Throttle By Wire (TBW), and has improved the Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) system. The 2017 Africa Twin had three levels of HSTC, plus ‘OFF’. But the new system features seven levels—from Level 1, for sporty off-road riding, to Level 7, which is ideal for very low-grip surfaces. HSTC is switchable, and there are also three levels of power and engine braking available. Four riding modes- Tour, Urban, Gravel and User further help fine-tune the character of the motorcycle. The engine features a bi-axial balancer shaft for optimum refinement, and a lighter lithium-ion battery is standard. The bike will reportedly be available in limited units.

The Africa Twin is the only motorcycle in the country to have the unique DCT feature.

The bike employs a 998 cc parallel twin with liquid cooling and fuel injection. The engine works in tandem with a 6-speed DCT unit. Suspension bits include 45 mm upside-down front fork and a Pro-Link monoshock at the rear. The adventure tourer comes to a halt using dual 310 mm petal discs up front and a 256 mm rear disc, both with ABS. Once launched, the 2018 Honda Africa Twin would rival the Triumph Tiger 800 range, Ducati Multistrada 950, Kawasaki Versys 1000, and Suzuki V-Strom 1000.
