2018 Honda Amaze registers sales of 9,789 units in May

The 2018 Honda Amaze went on sale in India on May 16. According to the latest figures shared by HCIL, the second generation Amaze registered sales of 9,789 units in May.

The Honda Amaze is the first model to be offered in a diesel-CVT configuration in India.

The introduction of the new model has given a huge boost to sales of the Amaze, as expected. Over the July 2017-December 2017 period, Honda Amaze sales averaged around 2,100 units a month. Whether Honda is able to sustain such strong figures remains to be seen.

The 2018 Honda Amaze petrol is priced from INR 5.60 lakhs (ex-showroom India) while the diesel starts at INR 6.70 lakhs (ex-showroom India). The petrol automatic variant costs INR 7.40 lakhs - INR 8.00 lakhs (ex-showroom India). Diesel automatic variant of the Amaze retails for INR 8.40 lakhs - INR 9.00 lakhs (ex-showroom India).

The 1.2 L i-VTEC petrol employed by the 2018 Honda Amaze puts out 90 PS and 110 Nm. The Amaze diesel manual with a 1.5 L i-DTEC engine and a 5-speed manual transmission develops 100 PS and 200 Nm, while the 1.5 L i-DTEC with CVT configuration produces 80 PS and 160 Nm.

Buyers can choose from 4 grades - E, S, V, and VX. While the manual gearbox configurations can be had in any grade, the CVT equipped variants are restricted to S and V grades only.

In May 2018, Honda sold a total of 15,864 units in the domestic markets. Compared to the same period last year when sales stood at 11,278 units, this is a jump of 41%. HCIL's export for the month stood at 516 units.

Honda will launch two more brand new models this fiscal. In the second half of FY2018-19, the Japanese car maker will introduce the 2018 Honda CR-V and the tenth generation Honda Civic in India. Both models were showcased at the Auto Expo in February earlier this year. The launch of these two products will be followed by three new models over the next three years. Two of them will be SUVs, as per reports. One will be a sub-4 m Maruti Vitara Brezza rival while the other will be greater than 4.3 m in length and could take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta or Jeep Compass.
