2018 Hyundai i20 (facelift) spied with Mercedes CLA-style alloy wheels

Expected to debut in early 2018.

A 2018 Hyundai i20 (facelift) pre-production test mule was snapped with a full body camouflage and body canvas that covers up the facelifted exterior, leaving the new alloy wheels as the only visible change. Interestingly, the design is eerily similar to the Mercedes CLA Sport's 17-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels.

Although this particular test mule has been covered, we have gotten a glimpse of the new i20's front fascia, which has inspired the rendering below. It will feature Hyundai's new hexagonal grille with horizontal chrome slats, flanked by new, swept-back projector headlamps with bolder LED DRLs, and a new bumper housing a pair of round fog lamps with chrome surrounds. The front fascia is a bit cleaner than that of the outgoing car.

We've yet to see the rear-end, but the only noticeable change so far is the positioning of the registration plate, which has been shifted upward to the bootlid. At the tape, the new i20 will likely be identical to the outgoing car, which is 3,985 mm long, 1,734 mm wide and 1,505 in high, has a wheelbase of 2,570 mm and a ground clearance of 170 mm.

The test mule's interior has also been completely covered, although we aren't expecting drastic changes to the cabin. The facelifted i20 could come with updated fabric upholstery, trim materials, and a new multi-info display and Supervision cluster.

As for engine options, the petrol variant will retain the 1.2L Kappa paired with a 5-speed manual, while the diesel variant should continue with the 1.4L turbodiesel unit paired with a 6-speed manual. It's unclear if the i20 Automatic (1.4 petrol + 4AT) will be retained, given its poor sales. Expect prices to receive a small hike over the current model price range of INR 5,36,624 - INR 9,09,118 (ex-showroom Delhi).

Reports put the launch of the new Hyundai i20 in early 2018.
