2018 Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupe India launch on 18 June

The 2018 Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupe that was introduced in September last year will reach Indian showrooms on 18 June, 2018. The updated model has various design changes and performance improvements.

The new Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupe employs a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine.

The new Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupe is instantly identifiable from the front because of its AMG Panamericana radiator grille. The front apron below this V-shaped cooling air intake resembles a hovering jet wing. There are new outer air inlets on its flanks, outlined in high-gloss black. At the rear, there’s an updated rear apron with diffuser insert, redesigned twin tailpipes of the AMG exhaust system and new OLED tail lamps.

With its mid-cycle refresh, the Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupe has replaced its 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine. The old engine delivered 430 kW (585 PS) at 5,500 rpm and 900 Nm of torque at 2,250-3,750 rpm. The new engine produces 415 kW (612 PS) at 5,500-6,000 rpm and 900 Nm of torque at 2,750-4,500 rpm. A 0-100 km/h speed run takes just 3.5 seconds now, 0.8 seconds lesser than before. The top speed is still electronically limited to 250 km/h. The AMG Driver’s package increases the top speed to 300 km/h. The new engine comes with cylinder deactivation for improved efficiency. The CO2 emissions are down from 237 g/km to 211 g/km.

In place of a 7-speed automatic transmission, there’s a new 9-speed automatic transmission now. The 4MATIC+ AWD system is available, but not in the RHD version. This means that the Indian-spec S 63 Coupe will have a rear wheel drive (RWD) layout. The Race Start launch control function is a new addition to the coupe. In the “Sport” or “Sport+” modes, all the driver needs to do is press hard on the brake pedal while simultaneously flooring the accelerator pedal. On releasing the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerates with optimal traction.

The 2018 Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupe takes just 3.5 seconds for a 0-100 km/h sprint.
