Update - Gallery updated with the S450 4MATIC Coupe (World premiere)

The 2017 edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show marks the debut of the 2018 Mercedes S-Class Coupe. The 2018 Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet also makes its debut alongside the fixed roof model. Both cars get styling tweaks similar to the changes made to the 2018 Mercedes S-Class that broke cover in April.

The headlamps have been updated with new detailing and as before, are full LED units. The nose gets a revised bumper along with dual chrome fins on the air inlets as part of the AMG Line package. Towards the rear, the most notable change comes in the form of new tail lamps graphics featuring OLED technology. Organic light emitting diode (OLED) are wafer-thin layers of organic materials printed on a glass plate and made to illuminate. There are a total of 66 ultra-flat OLEDs that act like floating elements inside the tail lamp.

The dual 12.3-inch displays are now housed behind a single glass pane giving the cockpit a more cohesive look. The 2018 Mercedes S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet also get a new steering wheel with touch sensitive controls. The twins get the latest versions of Merc's COMAND infotainment system that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration along with wireless charging. The car also boasts additional driver assistance features. For instance, Active Distance Control DISTRONIC and Active Steering Assist are there to provide support for the driver to keep a safe distance and steer. Also, the speed is now adjusted automatically ahead of bends, junctions or roundabouts, for example.

The 2018 Mercedes S-Class Coupe gets two powertrain options. There's the S450 with a 3.0 L V6 delivering 367 hp and 500 Nm mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox sending power to the rear wheels. Replacing the S550 is the S560 variant with a 469 hp and 700 Nm 4.0 L V8 sending power to all four wheels via a 9-speed 9G-TRONIC transmission. This engine also powers the 2018 Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet. In case of the convertible, power is transmitted only to the rear wheels.
