2018 VW Vento (Polo sedan) spied testing in Brazil
Will be based on the low cost MQB A0 platform.
Motor1 Brazil has acquired spy shots of the 2018 VW Voyage (next gen Gol sedan) testing in Brazil for the first time. Given that the next gen Brazil-spec Gol and Polo are developed together, this could very well be our first look at the next generation Polo sedan, otherwise known as the VW Vento in India.
From what we can tell, the new Vento appears to wider than the outgoing model, and could have a slightly longer wheelbase. Although it may be completely wrapped in camouflage, noticeable new changes include sleeker headlamps, larger grille, and new LED wraparound taillamps. The C-pillar design also appears to have been changed.
The next gen VW Vento will be based on the entry level ‘A0’ version of the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform, which is expected to shed a significant amount of weight from the current model’s kerb weight. The engine lineup is reported to include the 1.4 MPI engine, 1.2 TSI engine and a 1.5L TDI diesel engine available with manual and DSG automatic gearboxes.
Given that the next gen Polo is expected to priced higher than the current model, VW India may have to employ cost-cutting measures to not affect the next Polo’s arrival in India. Measures could include increasing localization of parts as well as making heavy India-specific changes to the mechanical package and electronics.
