Expected to arrive sometime next year.

The VW Polo is set to enter its sixth generation this year with an entirely redesigned model reportedly debuting at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Next year, Volkswagen may introduce the next-gen VW Vento (VW Polo Sedan) based on it. Automotive illustrator Shoeb Kalania has created a rendering with the next-gen VW Polo's expected design cues to preview the 2018 VW Vento.

The next-gen VW Vento will be based on the MQB A0 platform.

Going by reports, the next-gen VW Vento will be formed on the smallest version of the MQB (Modularer QuerBaukasten) platform - MQB A0. First utilised for the all-new 2017 Seat Ibiza, the new platform should make the car lighter, safer and more profitable. Lower production costs and compatibility for various alternative powertrains ranging from natural gas and hybrid to pure electric are two chief benefits of the MQB platform. The next-gen Polo is said to be around 70 kg lighter, and the sedan version may witness a similar drop.

The next-gen VW Vento will reportedly serve as a replacement for the VW Voyage, a VW Gol-based sedan, in South America. Development of this South American-spec vehicle is already underway, and spy shots suggest that it will be wider with a longer wheelbase to offer more comfort to the rear-seat passengers.

The current VW Vento is offered with 1.6-litre MPI naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol, 1.2-litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and 1.5-litre TDI turbocharged diesel engines in India. The next-gen model should be offered with the same engines with some revisions for performance and efficiency.
