IAB reader Hrishi Pinjan spotted an eighth-gen Audi A6 undergoing high-altitude testing in Mahabaleshwar this week. Introduced at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, the all-new model will reach the Indian showrooms this year.

The eighth generation Audi A6 is 4,939 mm long, 1,886 mm wide and 1,457 mm high. That’s an increment of 7 mm in length, 12 mm in width and 2 mm in height. The wheelbase has grown by 12 mm to 2,924 mm. The new generation model is bigger, sportier yet more elegant, and highly digital for a futuristic and clean design.

At the front, the Singleframe grille is wider and set down lower, and that, along with, the large, side air inlets with functional air curtains exude the business-class sedan’s sportiness. The flat, HD Matrix LED headlights, on the other hand, showcase its technological sophistication. In the side view, the car is now tauter. The C-pillar is much flatter and the entire window line, much more dynamic.

At the rear, the new wedge-shaped digital tail lights are the most noteworthy design detail. Nine vertical, 3D light fins on each side illuminate the tail light. A chrome strip running between them accentuates the rear. Inside, Audi’s minimalist approach to its upper-class range is evident in the latest A6. The company says that the design language appears reduced and the horizontal lines create an airy sense of space.

The highly digital cabin offers a 12.3-inch virtual instrument cluster and two central displays: 10.1-inch upper display for the infotainment and 8.6-inch lower display for the climate control, convenience functions and text input. Panoramic glass sunroof, massage seats (front) and four-zone automatic climate control system ensure that the driver and passengers travel in utmost comfort.

Moving to the engine options, all configurations with V6 engines have a 48V main electrical system that uses a Belt Alternator Starter that can recover up to 12 kW of power and a 10 Ah Lithium-ion battery in which the recovered power is stored. In the situation where the driver takes off his foot off the accelerator between 55 and 160 km/h, the sedan can run solely on the battery power for up to 40 seconds.
