While the 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 was expected to launch by November end, the bike is now likely to be introduced by early-2019. At the launch of the first-generation model, Bajaj Auto had planned to sell 10,000 units of the motorcycle per month. However, after the initial sales of around 4-5,000 monthly units, the Dominar has settled to an average of 1,200 units per month, clocking just 659 units in October.

The 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 facelift is likely to receive an updated engine, which will reportedly be smoother and powerful than the existing unit. Apart from the powertrain, the new Dominar also features USD front forks and a redesigned exhaust canister with an in-built catalytic converter.

The current-generation Bajaj Dominar 400 is unquestionably a VFM package. The amount of performance and features it offers for the price is unmatched. However, there are rough edges. For instance, the engine, although very tractable, can be more refined as vibrations kick-in from as low as 4,000 rpm. The other issue is with the overall kerb weight of 182 kg, which doesn’t feel on the move but can be felt while at a standstill or manoeuvring through traffic.

The 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 will reportedly employ an updated engine with DOHC layout, which if true, should reduce the vibrations and increase performance.

According to reports, the engine on the facelifted model will feature a DOHC (dual overhead cam) setup, which should help in reducing the vibrations. The 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 is also likely to feature ride-by-wire throttle and an updated instrument cluster among others. The current version uses a 373.2cc motor that is good for 34.5 bhp of power and 35 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
