SAIC Motor will commence its retail operations in India with an MG-badged, Baojun 530-based SUV in the second quarter of next year. While the MG SUV is a few months away from its launch, its donor is about to receive a facelift in its home market. A fresh set of spy images from Bitauto reveal the updates that will be carried by the 2019 Baojun 530 (facelift). These changes will be reflected in the Indian-spec version.

The highlight of the interior of the 2019 Baojun 530 (facelift) will be its large-size portrait touchscreen infotainment system.

In comparison to the floating-type touchscreen infotainment system of the current Baojun 530, the updated model features a large-size Tesla-like portrait unit that has been embedded into the dashboard. Reportedly, the controls for the HVAC will be integrated into the display. Furthermore, the new infotainment display has warranted the replacement of the horizontal aircon units of the current model with vertical units that flank the screen.

The exterior of the 2019 Baojun 530 (facelift) sports a handful of styling updates at the front and rear. The front fascia carries an updated grille with honeycomb mesh treatment instead of horizontal slats. Other changes include revised foglamp housings, a new rear bumper and updated rear combination lamps.

The Baojun 530 measures 4,655 mm in length, 1,835 mm in width, and 1,760 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. It has been on sale with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine (149.56 PS/230 Nm) and a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (137.32 PS/186 Nm). While the current model is available with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission, the facelifted model is said to be available with a CVT.

The Baojun 530-based MG SUV for India will draw its power from FCA’s 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine, which already powers the Jeep Compass and the Tata Harrier. The new model will be sold through a chain of 300 dealerships spread across the country.
