2019 BMW S1000RR Indian launch scheduled on 27 June

BMW Motorrad has confirmed that it will launch the 2019 S1000RR in India on 27 June. The two-wheeler brand had teased the upcoming motorcycle via its social network handles on various occasions in the past. In fact, select dealerships had commenced the unofficial pre-bookings for the 2019 S1000RR back in February this year.

The 2019 model year update brings significant visual and mechanical upgrades to the litre-class German motorcycle. Thus, the ex-showroom price will most likely be higher than the outgoing model's INR 17.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

In terms of styling, the 2019 S1000RR has dropped the unique asymmetric headlamp design that had become a character trait for most of the BMW motorcycles. The front fascia of the 2019 model packs sleeker, full LED headlights. The fairing, on the other hand, retains the asymmetric design, although the fins on the right side of the motorcycle receive black paint for a stealthy look. The revised cockpit features a new 6.5-inch display. With the revised design, the 2019 S1000RR tips the weighing scale at 197 kg.

BMW also offers M options and M Performance Parts with the 2019 S1000RR in the international market. Buyers in India will most likely have access to the M package. The optional kit helps further reduce the weight of the motorcycle to 193.5 kg, thus enhancing the power-to-weight ratio. The M package includes:

• Motorsport paint
• M carbon fibre wheels
• Lightweight battery
• M sport seat
• Pro Modes
• M chassis kit with swingarm pivot and rear ride height adjustment

New mechanical specifications include a newly developed, Euro-V compliant 999 cc in-line 4-cylinder engine with BMW ShiftCam Technology that makes eight hp more than the previous generation motor. The new engine makes 207 hp of max power at 13,500 rpm and 113 Nm of peak torque at 11,000 rpm. The motor is 4 kg lighter than the engine it replaces. The BMW ShiftCam varies the valve timings and valve strokes on the intake side for efficient acceleration and performance throughout the rev-range.

The electronic suite includes four riding modes – Rain, Road, Dynamic and Race – as standard. The optional "Pro Modes" bring three additional riding modes (Race Pro 1-3) and launch control to 2019 S1000RR.

Other rider aids include Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), ABS Pro, DTC Wheelie Function and Shift Assistant Pro for clutchless gearshifts (up- and down).

The BMW S1000RR will lock horns with the Ducati Panigale V4, Kawasaki ZX-10R, Yamaha YZF-R1 and the Suzuki GSX-R1000RR.
