BMW has listed the 2019 Z4 on its Indian website, and prospects can now register their interest. The redesigned roadster saw its international market launch just last month.

The 2019 BMW Z4 sits on the same platform as the Toyota GR Supra, and it's strictly rear-wheel drive.

Low-slung, sporty and compact, that’s the appearance of the 2019 BMW Z4 from every angle. At 4,324 mm in length, 1,864 mm in width and 1,304 in height, it’s 85 mm longer, 74 mm wider and 13 mm taller than its predecessor, though. The wheelbase, on the other hand, has been shortened by 26 mm to 2,470 mm.

While the second generation BMW Z4 was quite curvaceous and fluidic, the third generation model is sharp and aggressive. The design is still emotion-packed, though. At the front, the roadster has an elongated bonnet with arrow-shaped contour lines, a low, broad kidney grille, swept-back headlamps and a powerfully sculpted apron with large air intakes.

There’s a lot going on at the sides too. The joins at the bonnet’s sides merge into the upper character line that goes all the way back to the tail lights, while the lower character line emerges from the large Air Breathers behind the front wheel arches and has a gentle kick in the middle. 18-inch wheels are standard, but there is an option for 19-inch wheels.

The rear-end is perhaps the most striking angle of the all-new BMW Z4, with those slim L-shaped tail lamps that lend a wide, road-hugging appearance, the ducktail spoiler, the powerful apron with vertical air outlets and the trapezoidal tailpipes. From the design of its driver-focused interior, the redesigned roadster looks like a mini-BMW 8 Series.

With the lifecycle makeover, the BMW Z4 has switched back to a soft-top roof. This roof is operated electrically and customers can specify it in Black (standard) or Anthracite with silver effect (option). It can be opened or closed in 10 seconds, even while travelling at speeds up to 50 km/h. The boot capacity has reduced to 281 litres (roof open/close). In the old model, the boot capacity was 381 litres with the roof raised and 180 litres with the roof stowed.

Of the three model variants, namely sDrive20i, sDrive30i and M40i, BMW is bringing the entry-level sDrive20i and the top-of-the-line M40i to India. This means that we get the roadster with the 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 197 PS and 320 Nm of torque and the 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine dishing out 340 PS and 500 Nm of torque.

An 8-speed Steptronic transmission is standard, and on selecting the 3.0-litre engine, it comes with M-specific shift characteristics. All the configurations are strictly rear-wheel drive. The sDrive20i accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, while the M40i does the same in just 4.5 seconds. Their top speeds are 240 km/h and 250 km/h respectively.
