2019 Honda CR-V won’t get the 160 PS diesel engine in India - Report
The 2019 Honda CR-V will come with a diesel engine, but not with the most powerful one Honda has to offer. As reported in March, it is the low-output 120 PS 1.6-litre option that is planned for our market, reaffirms a report from Autocar India.
Beginning with the fifth generation model, Honda will offer the CR-V with a diesel engine in India. The latest Honda CR-V uses a 1.6-litre i-DTEC four-cylinder diesel engine, available in two different versions. There’s a low-out, single-turbocharged version that produces 88 kW (120 PS) at 4,000 rpm and 300 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. The second version has two turbochargers and delivers 118 kW (160 PS) and 350 Nm of torque at the same engine speeds.
To keep the costs low, Honda Cars India has decided not to offer the twin-turbocharged version. The Indian-spec 2019 Honda CR-V diesel will use the 120 PS/300 Nm config. The same engine will form one of the options for the 2019 Honda Civic sedan that will go on sale in early 2019. Honda builds the 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine at the Tapukara plant currently for export.
The Honda CR-V i-DTEC diesel comes with a 9-speed automatic transmission as standard internationally. An AWD system is optional. Honda has ruled out the 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo turbocharged petrol engine also for the same reason as the 1.6-litre i-DTEC twin-turbo diesel engine. Instead, it will offer the 2.4-litre i-VTEC naturally aspirated petrol engine that develops 127 kW (173 PS) at 6,200 rpm and 224 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. This option will come with a CVT and a 4WD system, possibly optional.
LED headlamps with LED DRL, LED fog lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED rear combination lamps, hands-free tailgate, faux wood trim, 7-inch driver information display, 7-inch Display Audio infotainment system with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 8-way power driver seat, 4-way power passenger seat, electric parking brake and six airbags are the expected main features of the 2019 Honda CR-V.
