2019 Proton Iriz (facelift) spied on test

The Proton Iriz turned four years old this month, and now, a mid-cycle update is in the works. Funtasticko.net has published a spy shot of the facelifted model undergoing testing publicly in Malaysia.

2019 Proton Iriz Facelift Rear Spy Shot
The new Proton Iriz will feature a modified rear bumper and a shark-fin antenna in place of the micro pole antenna.

The 2019 Proton Iriz’s spy shot shows its updated rear-end, where the tail lamps have remained unchanged. The new surfaces on the camouflaged bumper suggest some design revisions there. Also, the light reflectors seem to have moved to the upper portion of the bumper. Up top, a shark fin antenna has replaced the micro pole antenna.

The new model could have some changes at the front too, such as a modified bumper, tweaked headlamp, a revised grille and repositioned fog lamps. Proton may refresh the interior by introducing new trim and upholstery, and improve the functionality of the infotainment system.

The current Proton Iriz is available with two engines, both MPI petrol units. One is a 1.3-litre four-cylinder unit that produces 70 kW (94 hp) at 5,750 rpm and 120 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. It sends power to the wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission. The other is a 1.6-litre four-cylinder unit that develops 80 kW (107 hp) at 5,750 rpm and 150 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. It is coupled to a continuously variable transmission as standard. There’s no word on the mechanical changes due with the mid-life update.
