2019 Suzuki Gixxer 155 & Gixxer SF to launch soon – Report

With its rivals, the Yamaha FZ series already receiving a mid-life update, it shouldn’t be long before the Suzuki Gixxer 155 and the Gixxer SF get refreshed styling and features. In fact, a report from Gaadiwaadi claims that the trial production for the 2019 models have already commenced.

Its rivals such as the Honda CB Hornet 160R and the recently launched FZ series come with full LED headlight, and it would not be incorrect to expect the same on the new Gixxer 155 and Gixxer SF. Suzuki has begun to offer LED headlamp on its mass-market products with the Burgman Street 125 and the same will soon extend to the rest of its products. The LED headlight would be accompanied by an updated instrument console and refreshed cosmetics.

ABS would come as standard on the new models while the engine is likely to retain BS-IV compliance. The BS-VI ready motor would most likely arrive with the all-new model in 2020. Therefore, mechanical specifications would include a 154.9 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 14.8 PS of power at 8,000 rpm and 14 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm. Power will be transferred to the rear wheel via a five-speed gearbox.

The 2019 models should receive a marginal price increase over the outgoing models. For reference, the outgoing Gixxer 155 ABS retails for INR 88,390 while the Gixxer SF (carb) carries an INR 97,524 price tag. The fuel-injected Gixxer SF comes for INR 1,01,354.

Prices mentioned above are ex-showroom Delhi

Suzuki Motorcycles India has set a sales target of 750,000 of FY2018-19. The year-to-date numbers at the end of the Q3 of FY2018-19 stood at 493,329 units, which means that the two-wheeler brand has to clock over 250,000 unit sales in the last quarter of FY2018-19. While the Burgman 125 and the Access 125 continue to fuel sales of Suzuki Motorcycles India, the two-wheeler brand would like the 155cc Gixxer duo to further boost the numbers.

In other updates, the Gixxer 250 isn’t too far away and a report from last month claimed that we could see the quarter-litre model arrive by mid-2019. While the Gixxer 155 and Gixxer SF compete against the 150cc FZ and Fazer motorcycles, the Gixxer 250 would take the battle to the quarter-litre FZ and Fazer models. The Gixxer 250 would most likely arrive with a BS-VI ready motor and could deliver 20-25 PS of maximum power.
