2019 Suzuki Jimny 5-door - IAB Rendering
Suzuki released official images of the all-new Jimny earlier this month. Entering its fourth generation after a twenty-year wait, the Jimny maintains its image as a desirable 3-door off-roader. IAB's automotive illustrator has submitted a rendering that imagines a more practical, India-agreeable 5-door version of the 2019 Suzuki Jimny.
The 5-door variant brings an extended wheelbase that creates space for adults in the rear seat. Unlike Suzuki's model which accommodates two behind the front seats, the rendered model will have seating for three occupants in the second row. It adds a quarter glass between the C and D-pillars. There will be more cargo space as well.
Like the Suzuki Jimny Sierra, the 5-door variant gets chunky wheel arch cladding, projector headlamps, same split-spoke alloy wheels, and a dual tone look.
The rendering, of course, is only speculative. Suzuki appears to not plan for a 5-door variant as the vehicle is a sub-compact 4X4 from the ground-up, and the company designing a unique ladder-frame chassis that meets modern safety standards to support the vehicle. The outgoing third-generation was not offered in a 5-door body style either. In the future, there may be soft top and go-faster versions, but perhaps none that has extra doors.
The new Suzuki Jimny will go on sale in its home market in Jimny and Jimny Sierra variants powered by 0.6 L petrol and 1.5 L petrol engines respectively. It will be available in XG, XL, and XC grades while the Jimny Sierra will be offered in JL and JC grades. Top-end trims get LED projector headlamps, automatic climate control, cruise control, a touchscreen infotainment system, electrically retractable ORVMs, and a multifunction steering wheel. The SUV will come with part-time 4x4 as standard across all grades. Both engines will pair with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox.
