Next-gen 2019 Suzuki Jimny spied completely undisguised inside factory premises

A batch of completely undisguised next-gen Suzuki Jimny was recently spied inside factory premises in Japan indicating that the new generation model’s series production has commenced. The Japanese car maker is yet to officially reveal the 2019 Suzuki Jimny, though.

The Suzuki Jimny will enter its fourth generation with a complete makeover this year. The neo-retro approach adopted by Suzuki for the design of the new generation Jimny draws inspiration from the previous generation models. Something loyal owners looking for an upgrade would really appreciate. It still looks boxy like a typical utility vehicle. Round headlamps, steep windshield, squarish windows, minimal usage of body lines, trapezoidal wheel arches and flat roof are the key design details of the redesigned Jimny seen in the spy shots in the video above.

The current Jimny, which was introduced in 1998, is based on a ladder frame chassis. Reports say that the next-gen Suzuki Jimny will also have ladder-frame construction. In addition to one or more low-cost naturally aspirated petrol engine(s), the fourth generation model is said to come with an advanced BOOSTERJET turbocharged petrol engine. The downsized petrol engine should help Suzuki increase performance and fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions.

The 2018 Suzuki Jimny will have a completely revamped interior. Leaked images have already revealed several interior features including a twin-pod instrument cluster, flat-bottomed steering wheel, round climate control knobs and side air vents, rectangular centre air vents, touchscreen infotainment system and cockpit inspired lower centre console switchgear.

The Suzuki Jimny seen here could mark the comeback of the Maruti Gypsy. In 2016, a report said that Suzuki will manufacture this model at its wholly owned plant in Gujarat. Earlier this year, it was reported CV Raman, Senior Executive Director (Engineering), Maruti Suzuki, has said that it is a potential lifestyle product for India. However, there has been no word on its India launch since.
