We reported on 2 July that Yamaha is working on the next-generation YZF-R25, which could launch next year. Now according to a report from TMCBlog, the 2019 Yamaha R25 is likely to debut at the GIIAS 2018 (Indonesia International Auto Show) that opens on 2 August.

The publication further claims that Yamaha has a scope, at the GIIAS 2018, for showcasing another premium bike alongside the XMAX 250, which could be the new Yamaha R25. As reported earlier, the new-generation Yamaha R25 will feature an R1-inspired design and new tech features. The bike will reportedly come with a new chassis, upside down front forks and LED headlamps. The new R25 will also get a faux RAM air intake and an updated tail section, while the acclaimed variable valve actuation (VVA) feature will make it to the motorcycle as well.

Like the current model, the new Yamaha R25 is limited for Southeast Asian markets like Indonesia and Malaysia, while the Yamaha R3, featuring a powerful 321 cc engine, is available in global markets including India. The 2018 YZF-R25 only received new paint schemes for the Indonesian market.

The new updates no doubt would trickle down into the next-generation Yamaha YZF R3, which will make its way to India. The current-gen Yamaha R25 employs a 249 cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, fuel injected twin-cylinder engine that pumps out 36 PS of maximum power at 12,000 rpm while developing a peak torque of 22.6 Nm at 10,000 rpm. The engine pairs to a 6-speed gearbox, while a diamond-type chassis uses the engine as a stressed member. The Yamaha R25 competes with the Honda CBR 250RR and the Kawasaki Ninja 250.

Coming to the Yamaha R3, India Yamaha Motor launched the new 2018 model in India at the Auto Expo 2018, priced at INR 3.48 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). As part of the updates, the new R3 features standard dual-channel ABS and sticky Metzeler Sportec M5 tires. The Yamaha R3 rivals the KTM RC 390, TVS Apache RR 310, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the Benelli 302R in the domestic market.
