The second-gen Ford EcoSport arrived in early 2012 and will undergo a complete change around 2020. Automotive illustrator Kleber Silva has worked on unofficial renderings of the 2020 Ford EcoSport.

The rendered next-gen Ford EcoSport seen here is based on the Changan CS35.

The rendered next-gen Ford EcoSport is based on the Chinese Changan CS35, and changes are inspired by that of the current Ford Kuga which is moving to the next generation before the end of 2020.

The rendered next-gen Ford EcoSport’s design & styling is even closer to that of the Kuga, thanks to the nearly identical headlamps, radiator grille and tail lamps. The rendering is purely speculative, and we don't expect Ford to copy design trends from a previous generation SUV on a vehicle that has to stay relevant in 2025.

Ford’s recent announcement of curbing platforms for global models to just five could mean that the EcoSport may switch to a cost-down version of the C2 platform. With competition getting fierce in the looks department with designs like the Toyota C-HR and Hyundai Kona, the Blue Oval may need to do something radical to the exterior and interior of its B-SUV. Reports say that Honda is having a different formula in mind for the next-gen HR-V for the same reason.

The 2020 Ford EcoSport will likely have a longer and wider body. The current model measures 4.0 metres in length, 1.8 metres in width and 1.6 metres in height. It has a 2.5-metre wheelbase. The next-gen Ford EcoSport could come with upgraded 1.0-litre EcoBoost, 1.5-litre Ti-VCT, 2.0-litre Ti-VCT and 1.5-litre TDCi engines. Ford could offer a plug-in hybrid powertrain too. The company will likely expand the list of advanced safety and driver assistance features with automated emergency braking, forward-collision warning, a 360-degree camera and more.

The redesigned 2020 Ford EcoSport will likely have a longer and wider body for increased interior space.

India may get a different next-gen Ford EcoSport from the global markets, with the platform shared with a Mahindra B-SUV. Ford has said that it will tap alliance partners for low-cost models in emerging markets, and it has agreed to evaluate co-developing B-SUVs with Mahindra.
