The next-gen Honda City could make its first Indian appearance at Auto Expo 2020.

The fifth-generation Honda City is currently in the advanced development stage and is being tested in production body. Even its fully camouflaged body couldn't hide the buffed up size of the new City which adopts an obvious evolutionary design. The front and rear fascias of the car has gone through some prominent changes. At the front, it gets a new look thanks to the wide wraparound headlamps, redesigned front bumper, wider grille and a slightly bigger Honda logo. The rear too has gone through visible changes because of the new bumper, redesigned tail lights and tailgate. Overall, the car seems to be in sync with the design language of the latest Honda Accord. On the inside, expect the new City to have a plusher and more feature-rich cabin and offer a lot more connectivity and convenience features.

Expect a BS-VI 1.5L petrol and 1.5L i-DTEC diesel engine to do duties on the upcoming City. Both of these engines will be paired with a standard manual transmission or an optional CVT. As per previous reports, Honda will also launch a mild-hybrid variant of the next-gen City, to give a stronger competition to the Maruti Ciaz. Also, the company will introduce a full-hybrid variant of the same but it will only be reserved for the international markets.

Currently, the outgoing Honda City comes with a BS-IV 1.5L i-VTEC petrol engine which delivers 87.7 kW (119 PS) at 6,600 rpm and 145 Nm of torque at 4,600 rpm. It comes mated to a 5-speed MT or a CVT. There is also a BS-IV 1.5L i-DTEC diesel engine on offer which delivers 73 kW (100 PS) at 3,600rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1750rpm. It comes mated to a 6-speed MT.
