Honda working on the 2020 City is no new news, but now, the car has been spied for the first time. This is the fifth-gen model that will serve as a replacement for the fourth-gen model which was launched back in 2014.

The next-gen Honda City will likely go on sale in India in early 2020.

The test mule can be seen wearing heavy camouflage, but even then its up-sized dimensions are clearly visible. The new car appears to be wider and longer than the current model. There is a completely new front fascia with wide wraparound headlamps, redesigned front bumper, wider grille and a slightly bigger Honda logo at the front. Though the new spy shot reveals very limited details, one thing is certain that the next-gen Honda City's looks will be inspired by the company's latest design language theme as seen on the new Accord.

Earlier reports also say that the next-gen Honda City will be offered in a mild-hybrid variant, just like its rival Maruti Ciaz. There'll be a full-hybrid variant as well, for the international markets. The conventional engine options will likely be BS-VI 1.5L petrol and 1.5L i-DTEC diesel. Both will be linked to either a standard manual transmission or an optional CVT.

ArrayThe BS-IV 1.5L i-VTEC petrol engine churns out 87.7 kW (119 PS) at 6,600 rpm and 145 Nm of torque at 4,600 rpm and comes mated to a 5-speed MT or a CVT. The BS-IV 1.5L i-DTEC diesel engine delivers 73 kW (100 PS) at 3,600rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1750rpm. It comes paired with a 6-speed MT. The redesigned model will likely have a plusher cabin and offer a lot more connectivity, comfort and convenience features.

The next-gen Honda City will also have a mild-hybrid powertrain on offer.
