30 km/l Maruti Swift Hybrid, Maruti Dzire Hybrid in the works - Report

Will borrow the ‘SVHS’ technology from upcoming Maruti Ciaz SHVS.

Following the launch of the Maruti Ciaz SHVS (mild hybrid) in the coming days, reports suggest that Maruti Suzuki will implement the fuel-saving technology on all cars fitted with the 1.3-liter DDiS, which include the Maruti Swift, Maruti Dzire and Maruti Ertiga.

Maruti is targeting to cross the 30 km/l milestone with the Maruti Swift and Maruti Dzire duo.

While the Maruti Ciaz SHVS is expected to return 28 km/l mileage, the company is targeting to cross the 30 km/l milestone with the Maruti Swift and Dzire duo. This will be followed by the system being integrated in the Maruti Ertiga facelift as well, which could be launched as early as October.

Although the SHVS technology is imported to India, thanks to the Indian government's FAME initiative (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles), the new mild hybrid variants can avail lower excise duty of 12.5 percent and subsidy extension of INR 12,000 - 13,000.

SHVS-equipped Marutis will feature a brake energy recuperation system with an Integrated Starter Generator, and a start/stop system.

SHVS-equipped products will feature a brake energy recuperation system with an Integrated Starter Generator, which converts the kinetic energy of the rolling wheels into current for charging up the battery. It also comes with a start-stop system to shut off the engine when the vehicle is stationary.

The Maruti Swift Range Extender could be the second stage of the Swift Hybrid's evolution. The showcased version returns 48.2 km/l with a pure electric range of 25.5 km

This isn't the first time that Maruti expressed intentions of offering a more fuel efficient Swift. The company had showcased the Swift Range Extender variant at the 2014 Auto Expo and at the International Green Mobility Expo in February this year, which derives power from a 658 cc three-cylinder petrol engine and a permanent magnet type synchronous motor. Developing 73 hp, the Swift Range Extender is claimed to return 48.2 km/l with a pure electric range of 25.5 km.
