Quarter-litre Aprilia GPR 250 unveiled in China [Video]

Zongshen-Aprilia has unveiled the Aprilia GPR 250, a quarter-litre sports motorcycle in China. The motorcycle has been styled on the lines of the flagship model - the Aprilia RSV4. However, the powerplant is rumoured to be from the CFMoto 250NK.

The Aprilia GPR 250's power output is pegged at 26.5 PS and its torque peaks out at 22 Nm.

At the heart of the Aprilia GPR 250 is a 249.2 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. Coupled to a 6-speed gearbox, the engine can produce 26.5 PS of power at 9,000 rpm and 22 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm. The engine has a compression ratio of 11.3:1. While these numbers do not seem to be very exciting, taking into account the low kerb weight of 150 kg has us excited.

Braking duties in Aprilia GPR 250 are taken care of by a 300 mm disc in the front with a radially mounted calliper sourced from J.Juan and a disc brake with a calliper of the same make at the rear. The rear disc size is unknown. A dual-channel ABS is on offer. The fuel tank can store 14-litres of petrol. The Aprilia GPR 250 is shod with a 100/80-R17 tyre in the front and a 130/70-R17 in the rear.

The Aprilia GPR 250 measures 1,950 mm in length, 770 mm in width and 1,100 mm in terms of overall height. The bike has a wheelbase of 1,350 mm. Suspension duties are administered by upside-down fork up front and a monoshock in the rear.

Other features of the Aprilia GPR 150 include clip-on handlebars, rear-set footpegs, semi-digital instrumentation. Also, the bike gets a perimeter frame, aluminium swingarm and an underbelly exhaust. Besides that, the Aprilia GPR 250 gets split seats.

The Italian motorcycle maker showcased a 150 cc motorcycle at Auto Expo 2018 but later announced that they have no fixed plans for the RS150. The management further announced that the company is interested in a premium, mid-range motorcycle with an engine size between 150 cc and 250 cc. Could the Aprilia GPR 250 be the new bike for India?

The GPR 250 has been styled on the lines of the flagship Aprilia model - the RSV4.

If launched in India, the Aprilia GPR 250 will compete with the likes of Honda CBR250R and Suzuki Gixxer SF 250. However, it will likely be a pricier offering.
