Update: Piaggio officials told IAB that SR Max 300 was brought to India for internal display purpose only and there are no plans to launch the scooter in the country.
Maxi-scooters could be the next big thing to hit the Indian market. Currently, the only maxi-scooter style product is the Suzuki Burgman Street. However, unlike the international market where the scooter brand is available in higher displacement, Burgman Street comes with a 125cc motor that it shares with the Suzuki Access 125.

While no manufacturer has made any announcement about a maxi-scooter for India, motoring portal, Motoroids have reported the spy images of the Aprilia SR Max 300 on Indian shores. The 278 cc, liquid cooled engine on the Aprilia SR Max 300 comes mated to a CVT and delivers 22 hp of maximum power at 7,500 rpm and 23 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm. The apron features twin-pod headlight while the design aids the aerodynamics of the scooter.
The apron integrated front blinkers deliver a clean look to the fascia. The height-adjustable windscreen would provide solace against windblasts and enable the rider to cover more miles with maximum comfort. Further enhancing the comfort is the plush saddle that comes in a step-up design. The rider seat gets back support for better comfort during long rides. The dual-tone finish to the saddle looks premium and appealing. The scooter gets a split style footboard with sufficient space to position the feet as per the rider’s comfort.
The fuel tank capacity stands at 15 litres, which should offer a decent range between the fuel stops. Suspension duties are handled by twin shocks with adjustable pre-load settings at the rear and 35 mm telescopic forks at the front. A 260 mm disc at the front and a 240 mm disc at the back perform anchoring tasks. The safety net of dual-channel ABS should come as standard. The scooter rides on 120/70-15 front and 140/60-14 section rear tyres that are wrapped in alloy wheels and offer the convenience of tubeless rubber.

Aprilia has not announced any plans about the possibility of SR Max 300 for the Indian market. The scooter, if launched, will not have any direct rival although it could arrive at a premium price tag that would put it against some of the sub-500cc performance motorcycles in the Indian market.
