Aprilia Storm 125 India launch confirmed for Q1 2019

At the launch of the 2018 Aprilia SR150 and Piaggio Vespa range, Piaggio India has confirmed to IAB that the Aprilia Storm 125 will launch in India in Q1 2019 (January to March 2019).

The Aprilia Storm 125 will be an entry-level offering from Aprilia in India.

Answering IAB’s query on the Storm 125’s launch details, Mr Ashish Yakmi, Head Two-wheelers Business - Piaggio India, said -

The Aprilia Storm 125 will launch in Q1 2019. We will get exact launch timelines by next month. Dates I can’t confirm as there’s a lot of development happening at the back end. Unless there’s clarity on it, we cannot reveal the dates.

The Aprilia Storm 125 debuted in India at the Auto Expo 2018 in February in Greater Noida, alongside the Aprilia SR125.

The scooter was initially expected to launch in the country during the festive period. However, the launch has been pushed back as Piaggio plans to introduce the CBS (combined braking system) variant of the Aprilia Storm 125 in the domestic market. The new safety norms, which kick-in 1 April 2019, mandate all two-wheelers with engine displacement capacity under 125 cc to come equipped with CBS as standard. On the other hand, those above 125 cc are mandated to have a standard ABS unit.

The Aprilia Storm 125 features a sporty visual appeal and is targeted towards younger customers. While the scooter shares its underpinnings with the Aprilia SR125, it will be positioned below it as an entry-level offering from Aprilia. The Storm 125 will also receive a tall windshield as an official accessory.

The Storm 125 will feature bright colour schemes with a matte finish, 12-inch alloy wheels at both the ends and broader off-road tires. It comes equipped with 120-section front and 130-section rear knobby tires. The scooter will come shod with 30 mm telescopic front forks and a mono-shock at the back, while it has a fuel tank capacity of 6.5 litres.
