Ather electric scooter deliveries to start from September 11

Bengaluru will soon witness India’s first electric smart scooter on its roads as Ather Energy will commence deliveries of their products in September. Ather Energy will begin the deliveries of its electric scooter, the Ather 450, on September 11, 2018. The electric two-wheeler brand made the announcement through it Twitter handle.

While the electric scooters will only be available in Bengaluru in the first phase, Ather Energy plans to introduce the scooters to 12 major cities in the country by year 2020.

The Ather 340 and the Ather 450 have been priced at INR 1,09,750 and INR 1,24,750 (on-road) respectively. The prices include GST, road tax, smart card fee, registration card, and insurance. The on-road price also takes care of most operational expenses.

The electric scooters will only be available in Bengaluru in the first phase. Ather Energy plans to introduce the scooters to 12 major cities in the country by the year 2020. Ather Energy will set up its charging network, Ather Grid before the scooters are launched in other cities.

Visually, both variants of the electric scooter feature the same styling. However, the Ather 450 boasts higher performance. With its peak power of 5.4 kW and maximum torque of 20.5 Nm, the Ather 450 can accelerate from nought to 40 kmph in just 3.9 seconds before reaching a top speed of 80 km/h. The 2.4 kWh Lithium-ion battery boasts a range of 75 km (Eco Mode: On) and 60 km (Eco Mode: Off) on a full charge.

The Ather 340, on the other hand, has a peak power output of 4.4 kW and maximum torque of 20 Nm. The lower spec variant of the electric scooter can accelerate to 40 kmph from a standstill in 5.1 seconds before reaching a top speed of 70 kmph. The 1.92 kWh battery can cover 60 km (Eco Mode: On) and 50 km (Eco Mode: Off) on a full charge.

Both batteries are IP67 rated water, dust resistant, and can charge at 1 km/min with the fast charging adapter.

The 7-inch touchscreen dashboard also doubles up as navigation display.

The electric scooters also feature a 7-inch touchscreen dashboard that, apart from ride related information like the odometer, speedometer and battery gauge, also displays navigation. The scooters also feature full LED headlight, LED blinkers and LED tail light. It even gets a LED boot light for illumination while accessing the storage in the dark. The electric scooter also boasts a 24-litre storage space.
