Audi has recently announced that it is going enter the BS-VI era with only petrol engines and hence the 2020 Audi Q7 (facelift) which is on its way to the Indian market won’t be sold in a diesel engine variant initially. The same was even showcased at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year. Also, this means that the company will discontinue its momentously famous Q7 diesel in India.

Diesel engines have been in the eye of the controversies due to higher costs involved in their BS-IV to BS-VI upgrades. Some major automakers have already announced that they are separating ways with diesel technology in the future, while others are still contemplating the feasibility of cleaner diesels and if customers would be willing to pay higher prices for them or not.

Now, Balbir Singh Dhillon told PTI, "BS-VI we will start with petrol-only, across all models but diesel is not completely out of the picture. In the short term, (for) Q7 we don't have diesel. If some customers say we want only diesel, we may not have a solution for them for some time. If somebody asks for a Q7 in diesel on April 1, I have to say no. We are not close to the topic but as of now I will not just say no but will convince the customer to buy petrol.”

The new Audi Q7 is set to be launched in India in 2020. It is 5,063 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width and 1,741 mm in height. Compared to the older model, it is 11 mm longer. The new Audi Q7 features 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, and that too as standard. This technology is rated to reduce fuel consumption by up to 0.7 litress/100 km.
