LA Live - Audi R8 Competition

Last limited edition of the current gen supercar.

Audi has announced the limited edition 2015 Audi R8 Competition, which is billed as the "most powerful production Audi ever made," at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The R8 Competition is the most powerful production Audi ever built.

It's a fitting title, given that the R8 Competition is the last hurrah of the hugely successful current generation R8, before Audi unveils the next generation model in 2016 that is based on the Lamborghini Huracan.

Design wise, the R8 Competition is similar to the pre-facelift R8 GT that was built in limited numbers. It also borrows cues from the recently announced R8 LMX and features exclusive carbon fiber components like a front splitter, side blades, mirror caps, rear diffuser and a fixed rear wing.

The wheels are finished in gloss black, and the standard carbon ceramic brakes come with with red brake calipers. Audi has also equipped the supercar with a sports exhaust system that promises a louder exhaust note from a set of high-gloss black tailpipes.

All the 60 units will be sold only in the US.

Inside, Audi has trimmed the interior with matte carbon fiber and have added door sills that illuminate "R8 Competition". For the limited edition car, Audi is giving customers the freedom to spec their model from a wide selection of interior, exterior and wheel finish.

The USP of the R8 Competition is the retuned 5.2-liter V10 engine. It now produces 570 bhp, which is 20 more than the standard R8 V10. Coupled to a 7-speed S-Tronic that drives all four wheels via Audi's quattro AWD system, the Audi R8 Competition does 0-100kph in 3.2 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 320km/h.

Audi is limiting the production of the R8 Competition to just 60 units. What's worse is that the car is exclusive to the US market only. Audi will start accepting orders from November 2014, with deliveries taking place early 2015.
