Hyundai to foray hybrid car segment in India next year.

It was reported in February that Hyundai would display the Hyundai Ioniq at Auto Expo 2018. Now, a report from Autocar India confirms that the biennial auto show will stage the launch of the hybrid sedan in India.

Hyundai Motor India will source the Hyundai Ioniq hybrid in CKD form to enable lower pricing.

The report cites Y K Koo, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor India while confirming the market launch of the Hyundai Ioniq. Mr. Y K Koo has said that the company has just finished an extensive customer clinic in Delhi and received a positive feedback for the car. He has confirmed that the launch will take place at Auto Expo 2018 and that plan is to go for the CKD route.

The Hyundai Ioniq's close rival Toyota Prius, which was sold in India during its previous generation too, is sourced in CBU form and retails at a sticker price of INR 38.96 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi). Hyundai's plan is to aggressively price the Hyundai Ioniq, at around INR 25 lakh. The Toyota Camry Hybrid's sales have proven the potential for hybrid cars if priced well with localisation. Hyundai aims to sell 100 units of the Ioniq on an average every month.

The Hyundai Ioniq's hybrid powertrain develops 103.6 kW (141 PS) and 265 Nm of torque.

Both sources together develop 103.6 kW (141 PS) and 265 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The hybrid sedan has a fuel economy rating of 29.41 km/l and a CO2 emissions rating of 79 g/km.
