Bajaj Avenger 160 Street could replace the Avenger 180 Street – Report
While Bajaj Auto is gearing up for the launch of the Avenger 180 Street ABS and has introduced the teaser images of the motorcycle on its website, a report from Zigwheels claims that the 180 cc cruiser could be replaced by a small version later. While the source does not give any specific timeline for the arrival of the Avenger 160, it adds that the 160 cc version would use a BS-VI compliant version of the Bajaj Pulsar NS160’s 4-valve engine.

For reference, the BS-IV compliant 160.3 cc single-cylinder air/oil-cooled motor of the NS160 delivers 15.5PS of power at 8,500 rpm and 14.6 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm. It is mated to a five-speed gearbox. The performance numbers from the NS160’s power plant are at par with those seen on the spec sheet of the Avenger 180 Street while the torque is marginally higher on the 160.3 cc motor.
The safety net of single-channel ABS with Rear-Lift Protection (RLP) would come as standard, while the anchoring department, as in case of the Pulsar NS160, would feature disc brakes on both wheels. The motorcycle would continue to use conventional telescopic forks at the front and twin sided springs at the rear. The feature list could be upgraded with the addition of a LED headlight and a full-digital instrument console among others.
Given that Bajaj has already confirmed the Avenger 180 Street ABS, expect the 160 model to arrive next year. The new Avenger 160 Street could be part of the new Avenger range that Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, confirmed in an interview in September last year. The new Pulsar range, too, would be unveiled post the BS-VI implementation.
Expect the prices to hover in the same sub-INR one lakh price (ex-showroom) price range. For reference, the current non-ABS Avenger Street 180 retails at INR 86,611 (ex-showroom Delhi). Bajaj Auto would introduce the ABS-equipped Avenger 220 Cruise and Avenger 180 Street before the new safety norms make the safety feature mandatory from April 1, 2019.
