Bajaj Auto has started to roll out the ABS variants of its motorcycles to the dealerships well ahead of the April 2019 deadline set by the government. The ABS equipped Bajaj Pulsar 220 was photographed at a dealership ahead of the launch in the coming weeks.

The bike gets a single-channel instead of the more expensive dual-channel ABS unit to keep the prices competitive. The Pulsar 220F also benefits from rear lift-off protection (RLP) – a feature that stops the back wheels from lifting up in case of heavy braking. Apart from these, the motorcycle gets a new engine cowl that adds a sporty look to the package.

The single-channel ABS should result in a price increase of INR 8,000-12,000 over the standard model. The motorcycle will be available in four colours – chrome black, laser black (red decals), dyno red (grey decals) and nuclear blue (grey decals).

There would be no changes to the other specifications and the motorcycle would continue to employ a 220cc, oil-cooled motor that delivers 21 bhp of power and 19 Nm of torque. The engine is mated with a five-speed gearbox. A 260 mm disc at the front and a 230 mm unit at the back would perform stopping tasks.

Meanwhile, a recent report suggested that Bajaj is already working on a 250cc Pulsar motorcycle built around the KTM 250 Duke’s engine. The engine will be tuned for better low- and mid-range performance and paired with a six-speed gearbox, while a slipper clutch may be added to the mix. The Pulsar 250 is in the development cycle and is scheduled to arrive in 2020. Expect the Bajaj Pulsar 250 to be positioned in the INR 1.2 lakh to INR 1.5 lakh (ex-showroom) price range.
