Business Standard reports that Bajaj Auto intends to roll out the recently launched Qute quadricycle in 22 states by the end of this month.

It has been claimed that the Bajaj Qute meets stringent European safety regulations for quadricycles. The quadricycle has a turning radius of just 3.5 meters, which makes it an ideal vehicle for travelling through congested streets.

Unveiled in September 2015, the Bajaj Qute is the production-spec RE60. That said, the quadricycle was able to obtain the necessary approvals from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) only by June 2018. The Qute has already been on sale in Turkey and Indonesia among various other international markets. Made in Aurangabad, it is exported to over 30 countries worldwide.

The low-cost means of transport is powered by a 216 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled DTSi engine that makes a maximum power of 13.1 hp at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 18.9 Nm at 4,000 rpm when running on petrol. On CNG, it offers 10.9 hp at 5,500 rpm and 16.1 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The engine is paired with a five-speed sequential manual transmission.

The Bajaj Qute features drum brakes on all wheels. It uses fibre doors instead of metal ones to keep the weight in check. The interior is quite spartan, devoid of even an aircon. As per the company, the CNG version offers a running cost of just INR 1.53/km, which is lower than that of a motorcycle. It's being claimed that the CNG version can offer a maximum fuel efficiency of 43 km/kg, while the petrol version can offer 35 km/l.
